We asked some of beauty’s biggest names what their resolution was for 2013

Poppy King, founder, Lipstick Queen: “My beauty resolution for 2013 is the same as every year since I started wearing red lipstick. It is to keep wearing red lipstick because exciting things happen when you do!”

Nicky Kinnaird, founder, Space NK apothecaries: “Sunscreen. I’ll wear NIA24 Sun Damage Prevention Mineral Sunscreen SPF 30 Oil-Free 365 days a year regardless of the weather and wear a hat when I run outdoors or play tennis. As well as shading my face it will help to preserve my hair color for longer.”

Ricky WilsonDior Beauty celebrity makeup artist: “In 2013 I want to focus on my health and exercise. My goal is to drink more than eight ounces of water a day to maintain glowing, beautiful skin and to keep me hydrated as I take up spin class for the first time.”

Gina Mari, owner, Gina Mari: “My major health vice is sodium (via tabasco sauce), so I am resolving to be extra aware and reduce my salt intake for 2013. Too much salt has been linked to hypertension, osteoporosis and, of course, pesky water retention—all things to avoid in 2013!”

Wende Zomnir, founder and chief creative officer, Urban Decay Cosmetics: “To get more sleep! I’m good about diet and exercise, but I deprive myself of rest. They don’t call it ‘beauty sleep’ for nothing. And my health resolution is to deadlift 250 pounds. I could tell you it’s about feeling stronger and confident, but really it’s because it makes my butt and legs look better.”

Rodney Cutler, owner, Cutler Salon: “To slow down and eat lunch like a civilized person—not in three minutes while my client is getting shampooed—and avoid binge eating to help regulate my metabolism better. Also, in 2013 I want to finally, after 45 years, restrain myself from biting my fingernails!”

Stephanie Stonecelebrity nail stylist: “My beauty and health resolution is to carry around a reusable self-filtered water bottle! I drink so much water, but go through plastic bottles like crazy. My resolution is not only to beautify and hydrate myself but also take our planet more into consideration.”

Dr. Harold Lancer, owner, Lancer Dermatology: “My health goal for 2013 is to enroll in a steady pilates program twice a week.”

Summer Bellessa, one half of The Girls with Glasses and founder of Eliza magazine: “This year I am focusing on the beauty that comes from within, by focusing on what I put into my body. I’m going to eat more veggies and be consistent with drinking lots of water.”

Kilian Hennessy, owner, By Kilian Parfums: “To wake up at 6:30 a.m. every day and start my day with 45 minutes of cardio to eliminate stress—my body is just not the same when I do cardio and when I don’t—followed by my favorite moment of the day: a 15-minute relaxing, meditating hot bath!”

Christian Toscano, founder of Roots Rose Radish: “To stay incredibly hydrated. It is so important to keep your cells properly hydrated as this not only effects your body’s ability to repair itself and stay looking healthy, it also keeps cognitive function high and the balance of minerals in the blood stream. I prefer to avoid water in any skincare products for it only dilutes ingredients.”

Joanna Vargas, celebrity facialist and founder of Joanna Vargas Salon and Skincare Collection: “My beauty resolution for 2013 is to start the new year with Dr. Frank Lipman’s amazing detox Cleanse! It’s the perfect way to reset my body after all the decadent holiday parties!”

Charlene Florian, vice president of corporate creative development, Kerstin Florian: “My personal health resolutions for 2013 are to add more Vitamin D and minerals into my daily routine as well as kicking my exercise regimen up a notch by adding in more weight training. The best way to increase Vitamin D is to have safe sun exposure a few minutes a day. I plan to add more minerals into my routine by bathing in our new Mineral Wellness Soak on a regular basis. It’s the best mineral bath available—one of earth’s most pristine natural treasures. It helps to detoxify, ease sore muscles and add essential minerals into the body.”
