For many the year ends with one final home clean— a common tradition among many cultures. The idea being that cleaning house before the first day of the New Year ensures that you don’t carry the old, soiled or bad parts of the past, into the future; a literal fresh start.

As New Year’s Eve fast approaches we have two natural recipes from Roots Rose Radish founder Christian Toscano that will aid in your cleaning and will leave your abode smelling like an orange grove.

CITRUS WOOD POLISH:

We love using plants for all of our household cleaning needs. Here is our favorite recipe for a non-toxic citrus wood polish. The essential oils double as an antibacterial surface cleaner!

Instructions:

  1. Add equal parts olive oil and white vinegar in a glass spray bottle.

  2. Add 10 drops of essential oils of lemon and orange

  3. Shake well before each use.

  4. Apply to microfiber cloth and wipe wood surfaces clean. Repeat every two to three months or as often as needed.

FURNITURE POLISH:

Now that you’ve cleaned your wood of surface residue and bacteria, here is our favorite recipe for all natural furniture polish that will leave your furniture glowing! It also doubles to energetically cleanse your environment for bad spirits and those negative vibes.

Ingredients:

1 lb. beeswax

1 pint turpentine

1 pint boiled linseed

Instructions:

Melt wax linseed over medium heat. Once melted remove from heat and stir in turpentine. Pour into containers and let harden before using. Before applying to the wood warm gently and apply with a soft cloth. Allow wood to dry, then buff. Bask in the glow and say goodbye to the negative vibes.
